Rather’s Endorsement: President Clinton, under fire recently from the Washington press corps, got a vote of confidence Thursday from an unlikely source: CBS anchorman Dan Rather. Speaking from New York via a satellite hookup to the White House Rose Garden, Rather told the President of his hopes for his pairing with Connie Chung on CBS’ evening anchor desk. Said Rather: “If we can be one one-hundredth as great as you and Hillary Rodham Clinton have been together in the White House, we’d take it right now and walk away winners.”
