Waitress Effie Marx will be inducted into Illinois’ Route 66 Hall of Fame next month, and those who have experienced her hospitality while traveling the fabled highway say the honor is well deserved.

“Couldn’t happen to a nicer person,” said Leo Abry, a regular at Phil’s Harvest Table in Dwight, where Marx still works. “She’s a good old gal. Doesn’t know a bad mood.”

Marx, 75, will be joined in the Hall of Fame by retired state trooper Chester Henry and former gas station owner Bill Shea.
