Guerrillas attacked government forces in Angola’s inland city of Luena, killing 99 soldiers, UNITA rebel radio said Sunday.

The attack Saturday lasted four hours and left many wounded on the government side, the radio, monitored by the BBC, said.

UNITA forces also captured vehicles, arms and ammunition, the broadcast added.

Fighting between UNITA (National Union for the Total Independence of Angola) and forces of the ruling MPLA (Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola) has intensified since peace talks broke down last month.
