California / IN BRIEF : SONORA : Molester’s Killer Pleads Not Guilty

A woman charged with fatally shooting her son’s accused molester in a courthouse pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Superior Court Judge William Polley appointed two psychiatrists to examine Ellie Nesler’s mental state now and at the time of the killing. He scheduled a trial on the murder charge for July 13. If convicted, she faces a trial to determine her sanity, to begin Sept. 7. Nesler is charged with shooting Daniel Mark Driver five times April 2 during a recess in a preliminary court hearing. Driver, 35, was charged with molesting four boys, including Nesler’s son, in 1986 and 1987.
