A 72-year-old man was burned and his home was severely damaged when a fire broke out Monday as he was draining gasoline from the tank of his motorcycle, authorities said.

Clyde Eugene Cave was taken to Tustin Community Hospital after the 12:55 p.m. fire at his home on Warren Avenue, said Maria Sabol, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department.

Sabol said Cave was draining the gas into a pan when the vapors somehow ignited and flashed over his face and arms.

The blaze spread throughout the garage and roof of the home, causing $250,000 in damage, Sabol said.

The roof and attic were damaged and heat and smoke damaged much of the house, Sabol said.

Firefighters were able to control the blaze in 22 minutes, Sabol said.
