Downtown L.A. Hotel Occupancy Rate Down in April: Downtown Los Angeles hotels lost an estimated $2.8 million in revenue during April as fear of potential violence related to the Rodney King federal civil rights trial kept travelers away. The downtown hotel occupancy rate in April stood at only 34.4%--one of the lowest rates ever reported for the area, according to PKF Consulting, a hotel and hospitality consulting firm. Occupancy rates rose in May, but the levels remain flat with last year’s poor results, according to preliminary estimates. For all of Los Angeles County, the April occupancy rate fell 6% from year-ago figures.
