Scott Henderson, a pitcher from Villa Park High, was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the middle rounds of last week’s baseball free-agent draft. Henderson, who was 6-3 with a 1.92 ERA, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at USC.

La Habra pitcher Rusty Volkert was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ninth round of baseball’s free-agent draft.

Volkert, 6 feet 6, 190 pounds, had a 1.99 earned-run average, with 80 strikeouts and 13 walks in 67 innings.

Jason Szczuka, a Woodbridge soccer player, has signed a letter of intent to play for UC Irvine, the university announced Tuesday.

Szczuka, a three-time first team All-Southern Section selection at forward, was the Warriors’ leading scorer as a junior and senior. Szczuka will join his older brother Jon, who is a junior forward at Irvine.

Denise Selbe has resigned as girls’ basketball coach at Cypress High, Athletic Director John Selbe said.

Selbe resigned after she was promoted to assistant principal at at Kennedy High.

She was 75-24 in four seasons at Cypress, including four consecutive appearances in the playoffs, three trips to the quarterfinals and two Empire League titles. She coached North team to a victory in 1991 Orange County all-star game.
