Cambodian Assn.

With reference to Charles P. Wallace’s article on the Cambodian election (May 26), I feel my responsibility to present some correction.

One statement in the article relates to Sem Yang and describes him as “a founder of the Cambodian-American Assn., one of the largest Cambodian political organizations in America. . . .” Actually, Sem Yang was founder of the Cambodian Assn. of Southern California, which later became the Cambodian Assn. of America.

If the article is meant to refer to our agency as a political organization, I wish to bring some factual information. Our agency was formed as and remains a nonprofit social services organization. Our activities may involve advocacy in human and civil rights, and community empowerment.

We do not attempt to control the political involvement and affiliation of our directors and staff. Finally, the Cambodian Assn. of America is not affiliated with any political party and/or organization.
