ALEXIS BECKMAN

Pitcher

El Modena, Sr.

At one point, Beckman had eight straight shutouts among her total of 13. That winning streak was broken when the Vanguards were no-hit in the season’s final game. The Century League MVP, she finished 16-4 with a 0.21 ERA. She will attend Boston College.

*JENNIFER CLARK

Pitcher

Mater Dei, Sr.

Clark’s consistency was a primary reason for Mater Dei’s success. She went 14-2 during the regular season and compiled a 0.61 ERA. She also took some pressure off the defense, striking out 153 in 114 innings. She is headed for Fresno State.

*DANI ORTEGA

Pitcher

La Habra, Sr.

Ortega is a two-time, first-team selection who really worked for the honor. She pitched every inning of every game for the Highlanders, finishing 20-5 with a 0.31 ERA and a section-best 255 strikeouts in the regular season. She will play next year for Massachusetts.

*NICOLE PALONEY

Pitcher

Kennedy, Sr.

Paloney had a great season, going 11-1 and compiling the lowest earned-run average in the county, 0.15. She gave up only nine runs--two of them earned--over 96 innings for Kennedy, the county’s top-ranked team. She will play next year at Ohio State.

*KELLI BRUCE

Catcher

El Toro, So.

Bruce batted .482 and successfully stole 21 of 22 bases. She used that quickness defensively, and was an excellent defender against the bunt. She would have thrown out more than 21 of 39 runners, but 10 throws were dropped by infielders.

*ALLEAH POULSON

First Baseman

Irvine, Sr.

UCLA-bound Poulson is a two-time selection who batted .414 with a county-best seven home runs. She also had 18 RBIs, scored 21 runs and had eight stolen bases. Regarded as the county’s best defensive first baseman, she had a .982 fielding percentage.

*MICHELLE CHURNOCK

Infielder

Foothill, So.

Foothill had only one senior on the team, but Churnock, a sophomore, helped make it one of the most surprising teams in the county. She batted .437--and got on base 50% of the time--stole 26 bases and scored 17 runs. She made only one error at shortstop.

*NINA LINDENBERG

Infielder

Canyon, Jr.

Canyon didn’t make the playoffs this year, but it was through no fault of Lindenberg, a two-time all-county selection who batted .444 with two home runs, 22 stolen bases and 15 runs. She also fielded her position well, making 95% of the plays at shortstop.

*CHRIS PUCCIO

Infielder

Orange, Jr.

Yorke and Dacquisto ran away with the batting race, but Puccio finished a strong third (.544). She scored 16 times and had 15 stolen bases for the Panthers. She displayed a good glove with wide range, and anchored the Orange defense at third base.

*LISA DACQUISTO

Outfielder

Ocean View, Sr.

A two-time selection, Dacquisto finished the regular season with a .528 career batting average. Her .613 average led the county for the second consecutive year. She stole 43 bases and scored 26 runs. She will play next season at Arizona State.

*ALISON JOHNSEN

Outfielder

Woodbridge, Jr.

A two-time all-county selection, Johnsen batted .480 with 16 runs batted in and county bests in runs (36) and stolen bases (53), the latter an O.C. record. She had a .543 on-base average, and played an excellent defensive center field: She had four assists.

*ROBYN YORKE

Outfielder

Marina, Sr.

Yorke batted .603 with 30 runs and 31 stolen bases, making the team for second straight year. She compiled a career .459 batting average, and finished second to Dacquisto the last two years. A sound leadoff batter, she’s following her sister to play at Fresno State.

*STEPHANIE CAREW

Designated Hitter

Brea-Olinda, Sr.

Carew was on the team as a sophomore, and after a year’s hiatus, made a smashing return as a senior, hitting five home runs, driving in 16 and scoring 20 times. She was consistent and powerful, batting .422 with an .828 slugging average. She’s going to UCLA.

*MARCY CROUCH

Utility

Marina, So.

Crouch batted .348, scored 16 runs, drove in 13 and stole 10 bases for Marina, the county’s second-ranked team. When she wasn’t playing third, she was pitching, and was 12-1 with a 0.31 earned-run average, 97 strikeouts in 110 innings and a perfect game.
