Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Students Brawl for 2nd Day
PALMDALE — Students brawled at Highland High School on the final day of classes Friday, fighting for the second time in as many days, and had to be separated by teachers and security officers, school officials acknowledged.
The fighting Friday occurred during a midmorning break in the commons area of the Antelope Valley Union High School District campus. Another dispute broke out Thursday among students near the outdoor basketball courts. It was not known how many students were involved.
Principal Dale Johnson denied the incidents were the result of racial remarks between students. “There was a couple kids who got into a fight,” Johnson said of Friday’s incident, calling the incident “not worth a hill of beans.”
A spokesman for the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station in Lancaster said a unit was sent to the school on Friday because of the fight, but there were no arrests or serious injuries.
Other school staff members said the campus has had racial tensions, but added that year-end fights are not uncommon.
