MISSION VIEJO : School Board Adopts $112-Million Budget
With little fanfare, the Saddleback Valley school board adopted a $112-million budget for the 1993-94 fiscal year this week that saves academic programs from any new cuts.
To make up for an operating shortfall of about $2.5 million, the district balanced the budget by drawing from its $10.4-million reserve fund. The district still will be left with a reserve of about $7.9 million, about 3% of the total budget.
While the budget lacked the painful cuts of recent years, it includes no increases for such things as school supplies and materials, and some positions will remain vacant, officials said.
Officials attributed the shortfall to a freeze in state funding, despite increases in costs.
