BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Diapers Make All Glory Short-Lived
Dave Hansen basked in the glory of his grand slam Monday night, but said soon after he got home, it was back to reality.
“My wife and baby were waiting up and it was great, but I’ve got the night shift with the baby,” Hansen said. “You can bet the baby got an earful.”
Hansen and his wife, Julie, are the parents of 12-day-old Samantha Lynn.
“I think it all hit me more today than last night,” Hansen said of his two-out pinch hit, which beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-0.
One of the reasons it sunk in was the number of interviews Hansen did Tuesday before the game. “Oh, about a hundred,” Hansen said with a smile.
Hansen, a third baseman who has made only one start this season, has batted .381 as a pinch-hitter, with eight hits in 21 at-bats. He has seven hits in his last 14 at-bats and has a .750 on-base percentage in June, with five hits and four walks.

Lasorda was chosen by Atlanta Brave Manager Bobby Cox as one of the coaches for the National League All-Star team. It will be Lasorda’s eighth all-star appearance. He has managed four and coached three. . . . Jody Reed skipped Tuesday night’s game to be with his wife, Michele, who gave birth to their second child, Kassidy Anne. . . . Clem Labine and Pee Wee Reese, in town for Roy Campanella’s funeral, were guests in Lasorda’s office before the game. . . . Rick Trlicek decided to drop his appeal of his three-game suspension from the National League for his part in a brawl against the San Diego Padres June 10, and began serving his suspension Tuesday. With the Dodgers scheduled to play 11 games in their upcoming 10-day trip, Trlicek probably will be needed.
