The committee staging the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fourth of July Family Festival of Fun and Fireworks this year is determined that nothing will go wrong.

“We don’t have any ‘what ifs,’ ” said pharmacist Lou Fram, who is in charge of the event at Crescenta Valley High School. “We have total control. The only thing we don’t have control of is what God is going to do with the weather. And that’s not a problem. Fourth of July is never a problem.”

For those who are new to the area, or do not remember, last year’s fireworks show didn’t go off because the pyrotechnician hired to set up the display left and didn’t return for the program.

“I’m very confident we’ve really learned from our mistakes and we’re covering all the bases,” said entertainment chair Glenn Einarsen, owner of Media Tech Services.

The most important part is the new company, Pyrospectaculars, which has an excellent reputation, according to the committee.

“They want to look good. And they want to make us look good,” said chamber president and games coordinator Eleanor Wacker.

The company is “working with us 110% and we’re in complete contact with them all the time,” Fram said.

There will also be a whole day of entertainment, carnival rides, games and food before the blasting begins.

“It’s going to be wonderful,” Wacker said. “We’re opening earlier (than last year). We’re having a lot

more rides. We’re having lots of wonderful food. It’s going to be great.”

Four bands are scheduled to play rock ‘n’ roll, country and Western, rhythm and blues, and bluegrass.

Admission to the football field, 4400 Ramsdell Ave., is $5, and children younger than 5 get in free. Rides are between $1 and $1.50. Food at chamber booths ranges from $1 to $2.

The La Crescenta show is the only one featuring fireworks in the area, but there are other festivities scheduled to honor the nation’s birthday:

Descanso Gardens is featuring traditional American food at its Cafe Court, and the Sweet Adelines, Verdugo Club Chapter, will entertain with barbershop music on the main lawn from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The Gardens are at 1418 Descanso Drive in La Canada Flintridge. Admission is 75 cents to $3. Children younger than 5 get in free.

The city of La Canada Flintridge has one of its free Music-In-The-Park Concerts scheduled Sunday, with the Misbehavin’ Jazz Band playing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd.

Finally, Heritage Square Museum in Highland Park will have Victorian lawn games, Dean Mora and the Union Brass Band at 2 and 4 p.m. and free iced tea in addition to its usual tours. The museum, at 3800 Homer St., will be open from noon to 6 p.m., with admission prices ranging from $1 to $5; children younger than 6 get in free.
