ECONOMY
Slow Going Predicted for Global Economy: The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said the world economy is close to pulling out of a three-year slump but that a general rebound is still some way off. The Paris-based think tank, in its semiannual report, said debt carried over from the 1980s and high European interest rates stand in the way of a more rapid comeback. The organization predicted that growth in its 24 member countries will accelerate to a rate of 2.7% in 1994 from just 1.2% this year but that unemployment will not begin to recede before the end of 1994.
