Bell : Bel Air Motel Closed for Safety Violations
The city has closed the Bel Air Motel at 4916 Florence Ave., ending a lengthy investigation into suspected health and safety violations.
“There was a lot of narcotics and prostitution going on there,” said Sgt. Stan Loder. “It was definitely one of the worst of its kind around here because of the amount of activity going on there.”
The 52-unit motel was closed shortly after a May 28 police inspection. The property, owned by Lung Tsai and three others, is in foreclosure.
A spokesman for Bank of America, the lender on the property, said the bank had been working with the city. “We’ve been trying to foreclose on the property because we’re dealing with . . . borrowers who let the property deteriorate,” said Greg Berardi. He did not know when the property would be up for sale.
An investigation by city code enforcement officials began after a fire broke out in one of the motel’s rooms in January.
