Where to Find the Fireworks and Parades

Made your Fourth of July plans yet? Fireworks, parades, picnics, carnivals and concerts abound throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

Alhambra--A carnival begins at 2 p.m. today in Almansor Park, 800 S. Almansor St. A musical salute, featuring the Talent Towners, the Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena and Armand Blais Orchestra, begins at 7 p.m. Fireworks start at 9 p.m.

Baldwin Park--The band Versatile Sound will perform at 6 p.m. today at Sierra Vista High School, 3600 Frazier Blvd. The concert will be followed by a fireworks show after dusk. Former Dodger catcher Steve Yeager will be on hand to sign autographs.

Claremont--Today’s celebration begins at 10 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd., followed by a festival in the park until 4 p.m. A parade through town is scheduled between 4 and 5 p.m., and a fireworks show at Claremont-McKenna College will begin at dusk. Admission is $7.

Covina--A holiday carnival in Covina City Park will be held from noon to 10 p.m. today. The Covina Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m.

Duarte--A family picnic with games and entertainment is scheduled between 2:30 and 5 p.m. today at Encanto Park, 751 Encanto Parkway.

El Monte--A fireworks show at Arroyo High School’s Bergstrom Stadium will begin at 9 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $5. Children younger than 12 admitted free.

Glendora--The Glendora Lions Club will sponsor a carnival at Citrus College from 3 to 11 p.m. today. Fireworks begin about dusk.

Irwindale--A celebration today at Irwindale Community Park, 5050 N. Irwindale Ave., will begin at 1 p.m. Mariachi Jaliscinse performs from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a dance performance from 5 to 5:45 p.m. The salsa band Chico will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. A fireworks show will begin about 9 p.m.

La Puente--A concert will precede a 7 p.m. fireworks show tonight at La Puente High School, 15615 E. Nelson Ave. Gates open at 6 p.m. Monrovia--The Danbury Municipal Band will perform at Library Park, 321 S. Myrtle Ave., between 6:30 and 8 p.m. today.

Monterey Park--A celebration will begin at 1 p.m. today in Barnes Park, 350 S. McPherrin Ave. Fireworks will begin about 9 p.m.

Pasadena--The Rose Bowl’s Americafest ’93 begins at 6:30 p.m. today and will include music by the ‘60s rock duo Jan and Dean, a hot-air balloon race and a fireworks show. Tickets for adults are $10 or $16, depending on seating. Tickets for children 12 and younger are $8.

Pomona--The seventh annual “Kaboom” Fourth of July celebration at the Fairplex Park, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., begins at 3 p.m. today and includes pony rides, petting farm, a chili cook-off and vintage car show. Igor’s Jazz Cowboys, a band that mixes Western swing and Dixieland jazz, will precede the fireworks show, which begins at 8:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. There is no charge for younger children.

Rosemead--Food, rides and fireworks will be featured during a carnival and Fourth of July celebration at Rosemead Park, 4343 Encinita Ave. Hours are noon to 11 p.m. today and Monday. Admission is $3 for people 18 and older.

San Marino--A community parade will begin at 5 p.m. today at Monterey Road and Huntington Drive, and continue up Monterey Road to Lacy Park, where musical entertainment will continue until fireworks begin at 9 p.m.

Sierra Madre--A post-Fourth of July parade will start at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunnyside Avenue and Sierra Madre Boulevard and end at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, 232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd. There will be games for children, a beer garden and food booths, as well as Dixieland music until 5 p.m.

South El Monte--An arts and crafts festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at New Temple Park, 1450 Lidcombe St. There also will be a basketball tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community center, 1530 Central Ave.

South Pasadena--A parade to launch the Festival of Balloons will start at 1 p.m. today at the library, 1100 Oxley St., and end at Garfield Park, 815 S. Mission Ave., where there will be food and game booths. The gate opens at 5 p.m. for musical entertainment at the high school stadium. Fireworks follow at 9 p.m. The entrance fee is $4 at the gate.

Walnut--The annual celebration today at Mt. San Antonio College, 1100 N. Grand Ave., begins at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment will include sky divers, folkloric dancers, Latin bands and canine Frisbee acrobatics. The fireworks show starts at 9 p.m. Entrance is $6 per person; free for children 5 and younger.
