San Marino : $9.5-Million Budget OKd
City Council members last week unanimously approved a $9.5-million budget that includes funding for a seismic upgrade of the city’s fire station.
To balance the 1993-94 budget, the city cut $350,000, in part by combining the parks and public works departments and contracting with South Pasadena instead of the county for jail services.
The $350,000 seismic upgrade is needed because the fire station is built of unreinforced masonry and could crumble in an earthquake, officials said.
According to the California League of Cities, San Marino is expected to lose at least $173,000 in property taxes under the new state budget. That comes on top of a $400,000 loss to the state in 1992-93.
