Yorba Linda Finance Director Charles Gordon Vessey was released on bond from County Jail on Saturday after his arrest on suspicion of selling two ounces of methamphetamine to a police informant during an undercover operation Wednesday.

Vessey, a 20-year employee of Yorba Linda, admitted himself to a drug rehabilitation hospital for treatment, according to his brother Richard.

Richard Vessey read a brief statement on behalf of his family that said: “We are all shocked and saddened by Gordon’s arrest. He was voluntarily admitted today to a drug rehabilitation hospital. We wish him and others with substance and/or alcohol abuse problems success in their recovery and urge other abusers to please seek early help.”

“Our prayers are with him,” the family’s statement concluded.

Richard Vessey declined to discuss the matter further and said his 42-year-old brother didn’t want to comment directly on the charges.

“He doesn’t want to be bothered,” Richard Vessey said.

The city’s top finance administrator was arrested after allegedly selling methamphetamine valued at $1,500 in a restaurant parking lot during an undercover operation by Buena Park officers.

He was arraigned Friday and taken to County Jail, where he stayed overnight. It was not known Saturday how much his bail was or who paid to release him.
