SWIMMING : Evans Meet Begins Today
Barcelona Olympic gold-medal swimmers Janet Evans, Martin Zubero, Nicole Haislett and Jeff Rouse are the top entrants in the Janet Evans Invitational today through Sunday at USC.
Silver medalist Greg Burgess, U.S. record-holder Royce Sharp and four-time national champion Kristine Quance of Northridge are also in the field of 630 swimmers.
The 22nd annual meet, previously known as the Los Angeles Invitational, was renamed this year. The four-day event is a final tune-up for the national meet, July 26-30 at Austin, Tex. It starts at 5 p.m. today with timed finals of the 800-meter freestyle, men’s and women’s.
Preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 8:30 on Sunday. Finals start at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 4 Sunday.
