A 30-year-old Santa Ana woman died Sunday after she was struck by a car operated by a student driver and pinned to a parked vehicle at Yorba Regional Park.

The victim, identified as Gloria Gonzales, was pronounced dead at Kaiser Permanente Hospital-Orange County at 4:45 p.m., shortly after the accident.

Gonzales was standing near a parked car when the student driver, Juana Carrillo, 27, of Santa Ana, attempted to pull into a parking space next to her, police said.

On seeing Gonzales, Carrillo attempted to hit the brakes but instead accidentally stepped on the car’s accelerator, said acting Sgt. Stan Woodson.

The car pinned Gonzales against the parked car, which rammed into a third vehicle, Woodson said.

Gonzales was treated at the scene before being rushed to the hospital.

Police said Carrillo, who was being taught to drive by a family member, was not cited. An investigation is continuing.
