Domestic Oil Output Hits 35-Year Low: Domestic crude oil production dropped to less than 6.9 million barrels a day during the first half of the year, the American Petroleum Institute reported. API said in its midyear oil statistics report that the 5.5% drop in domestic production was “larger than anticipated . . . and substantially greater than last year’s annual decrease.” Domestic crude production has been declining steadily since 1985, when it was 9 million barrels a day.
