Coca-Cola Co. reported Thursday that its second-quarter profit jumped 20% from the year-earlier period as a result of strong sales volume, particularly overseas.

The Atlanta-based soft drink company earned $678 million, or 52 cents a share, during the three-month period, compared to income of $565 million, or 43 cents a share, in the 1992 second quarter.

Revenue rose 11% to $3.9 billion, from $3.5 billion.

The biggest increase--25%--occurred in northeastern Europe and the Middle East, where Coke is expanding in previously untapped markets.
