Lawmaker Claims Higher C-17 Repair Costs: Repairing the wings on the cargo plane will cost more than $364 million, far more than the $50-million estimate the Air Force and McDonnell Douglas gave Congress in April, Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) said in a letter to the Pentagon. “It appears that the subcommittee has been misled by both the Air Force and C-17 prime contractor, McDonnell Douglas, about the costs of repairing the C-17 wings,” he said. The Air Force had no immediate comment on Conyers’ remarks. McDonnell Douglas spokesman Larry McCracken said, “We do not believe the subcommittee was misled.”
