A report by the county Metropolitan Transportation Authority has recommended taking steps to improve bus service in Los Angeles’ inner-city neighborhoods because residents are highly dependent on public transportation. The report, launched in April, 1992, after political leaders questioned whether the poor, mostly minority area was being shortchanged, called for additional service to relieve overcrowding on 10 bus lines and for construction of bus shelters to provide jobs in the community as well as safety and comfort for passengers.
