SANTA ANA : Mountain Trek for Latino Teens Planned
A group of advocates for Latino youngsters from Santa Ana will lead an 82-mile backpack trek to Mt. Whitney from Tuesday to Aug. 5.
The trip, designed to offer inner-city youngsters inspirational experiences, will be led by youth probation counselors Luis Ruan and Octavio Gonzales. Ten boys and four girls, ages 14 to 19, will participate in the hike.
The trip will be sponsored by Students Utilizing Resources in Education, a nonprofit group based in Anaheim Hills. Gonzalez said the group is seeking donations to raise the $7,000 needed to pay for the trip as well as purchase camping equipment.
Donations may be sent to: Students Utilizing Resources in Education, 500 S. Anaheim Hills Road, Suite 234, Anaheim Hills, Calif. 92807.
