Lorraine Will Sign With Angels Today
Andrew Lorraine, a left-handed pitcher from Hart High who was the most valuable player at Stanford last season, will sign with the Angels today. Lorraine, 20, was chosen in the fourth round of the June draft.
“It took some time but he got what he wanted,” said Marlene Lorraine, Andrew’s mother. “It was pretty good for the fourth round.”
Lorraine, who has not pitched since the college season ended, will report to the Angels’ rookie league team in Mesa, Ariz. From there, he probably will be assigned to Boise (Ida.) of the Class-A Northwest League.
Lorraine was an All-Pacific 10 Conference selection last spring after posting an 8-6 record with a 4.15 earned-run average. He led the team with 123 2/3 innings and nine complete games. He plans to complete requirements for a bachelor’s degree in American Studies in the fall.
