AND ONE MORE THING: Odes to athletic shoes are old hat in rap, going back to Run-DMC’s “My Adidas.” But never has it come from as close to the source as the upcoming album “Get Off Mine,” by 19-year-old Chilly Tee, which includes a song titled “Just Do It,” based on the Nike slogan. The catch: Chilly Tee (real name Travis Knight) is the son of Nike owner Phillip Knight.
The album, coming from MCA on Aug. 17, has a certain amount of street credibility, as it was produced by Hank Shocklee and his Bomb Squad, best known for their work with Public Enemy. But the blond, Portland-raised Chilly Tee doesn’t try to hide his roots. Here’s a sample rhyme for the song “Snap Ya Neck ta This”:
I got the Nike wears, head to toe with the trim,
The BMW I drive iz the color of my skin,
I’m in it to win it, I got the skills and the status,
You wanna know why? My pockets are the fattest.
