Existing Rail Line Makes New Project Redundant
* The Metropolitan Transit Authority wants to spend your tax money to build a 14-mile subway in the San Fernando Valley, or a 16-mile elevated rail line over the Ventura Freeway.
It seems unaware that an existing rail line already runs east to west through the San Fernando Valley. Tracks run along Canoga Avenue and then turn east near Pierce College, running alongside Victory Boulevard, through Chandler Boulevard, right into Union Station.
For just the cost of the rolling stock, you could start running trains on this line tomorrow. This line is rarely used. It’s already built. Why spend more money duplicating it?
