BURBANK : Cuts Likely to Offset Extra Lottery Funds

Burbank schools are getting extra lottery money this year, but state funding cuts are likely to eat up the surplus revenue, district officials said Monday.

“We have gotten word from the state that (the cuts are) going to be larger than expected and it is expected to be a wash,” said Sharon Hoaglund, fiscal services administrator for the Burbank Unified School District.

The district had budgeted a loss of about $2.4 million in state funding for the 1992-93 school year, but state officials say the actual loss would be about $2.6 million.

Fred Lilly, director of budget services for the district, said he expects an extra $170,000 in lottery funding for the 1992-93 school year. The district had expected to receive $1 million.

The Burbank school district has an annual budget of $65 million.
