$100,000 No-Show Fuels Payoff Record
An unidentified bettor in Las Vegas created the largest show payoff in harness racing history Monday night when the horse he wagered $100,000 on finished out of the money at Sportsman’s Park.
Alltogethernow, a 30-1 shot, won the second race and paid $64.40, $29.40 and $470. The show price broke the national harness racing record of $340.80 paid by Armbro Haggart at New Jersey’s Freehold Raceway on Oct. 22, 1988.
Of the total show pool of $107,350 for the second race, $105,595 was bet on HP Campion. Only $124 was wagered on Alltogethernow to show. If HP Campion had finished in the money, the return on the Las Vegas bet would have been $105,000.
The $100,000 wager was the fifth placed on a horse at Sportsman’s Park in recent weeks and the first loser.
