Charles (Chub) Feeney, former National League president and San Francisco Giants’ general manager, apparently suffered a slight stroke while he was talking to broadcaster Vin Scully at Monday’s game between the Giants and the Dodgers in San Francisco. Feeney, who left the park in stable condition, was taken to a hospital for treatment and observation.

With Saturday night the deadline for trading players without having to put them on waivers, Fred Claire said there has been a slight increase in phone calls from other general managers--most from American League clubs.

“There is nothing hot or ongoing,” the Dodger vice president said.

“It’s just a matter of fielding calls from American League clubs who are in contention and are looking for veteran players. . . . We will continue to talk the course of this week before the deadline.”

The two veteran players who appear to have the most appeal are Kevin Gross and Brett Butler. Gross’s contract expires at the end of this season, although the Dodgers have repeater rights. And Butler, whose three-year $10-million contract ends this season, has a club option for 1994 of $3.5 million, or a buyout of $500,000.

The Dodgers are taking a look at both Henry Rodriguez and Raul Mondesi, two of their outfield prospects, with Billy Ashley still at their triple-A club in Albuquerque. Mondesi has been touted as the Dodger center fielder of the future, and Rodriguez hit his third home run during Monday’s 15-1 Dodger victory over the Giants.

For only the 11th time in 97 starts this season, Barry Bonds failed to reach base in the Dodgers’ 15-1 victory over the Giants. Bonds has not done well against the Dodgers, batting .182 with no home runs or runs batted in in seven games. . . . Orel Hershiser scored two runs and had two singles and a sacrifice bunt, raising his batting average to .378 (17 for 45).

The Giants have been in first place 77 consecutive days and 102 of 112 days. They increased their lead from one game on May 16 to their current eight-game lead, with a 43-20 record during that time.
