From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A fire destroyed the offices of the NAACP and fire officials said they believe it was deliberately set. Firefighters found evidence of a liquid fire accelerant in the charred office, officials said. James Reede Jr., political action director of the local chapter of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, said someone broke a window and threw a firebomb inside. “It shows that racism is alive and well in Sacramento,” Reede said. NAACP officials said they had no idea who might have started the fire.
