Pop Album Chart : ‘Black Sunday’ Displaces ‘Zooropa’

The number of followers of Cypress Hill is larger than most people expected. The group’s acclaimed “Black Sunday” entered the pop album chart at No. 1, blowing away the competition. U2’s “Zooropa,” which figured to be on top through August at least, was bumped to second. The question, of course, is whether Cypress Hill can maintain anything close to this level of sales. Don’t be surprised if U2 is back on top next week. Soul Asylum’s “Grave Dancers Union,” on the chart for 38 weeks, has lately been creeping toward the Top 10, rising three more notches to No. 13. UB40’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” continues as the No. 1 pop single.

* The “Poetic Justice” soundtrack was moving relatively slowly--last week climbing just three notches to No. 39--until it got a jolt from the release of the movie, which has done strong business since its opening last week. Some fans who saw the movie obviously ran out to buy the soundtrack, which jumped to No. 24.
