Luis Felipe Giron May, billed as Guatemala’s most renowned opera singer, is scheduled to sing Saturday at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.
Giron May, a baritone whose repertory ranges from baroque to contemporary music, has performed with opera companies around the world, singing lead roles in 36 operas, including “La Traviata,” “Simon Boccanegra,” “Don Carlos,” “Carmen,” “Aida” and “La Boheme.” He studied at the Giusseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and in Vienna and the United States.
Accompanying Giron May will be pianist Consuela Medinilla, a teacher at the National Conservatory of Music in Guatemala. The program will feature selections from composers including Mozart, Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini, Herrarte, Esparza-Otero and Lecuona.
Saturday’s concert is free, but guests must pick up complimentary tickets at the arts center information counter from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today or at the box office on Saturday before the performance.
