Chapman Promotes Assistant Peters to Head Baseball Coach
Chapman has promoted Rex Peters from assistant baseball coach to head coach, the university announced Thursday. Peters replaces Gary Henderson, who moved to Pepperdine as an assistant baseball coach.
Peters, a Cal State Fullerton graduate who played three years in the Dodger organization, was Henderson’s assistant last season. It was his first coaching job.
Peters, an infielder, came to Cal State Fullerton from Orange Coast College. In his senior season (1989), he was an All-Big West Conference and honorable mention All-American selection.
Peters, 27, lives in Long Beach with his wife, Michelle Snow Peters, the sister of Angel minor leaguer J.T. Snow, and their infant daughter.
Chapman also named Pam Gibbons, who had been assistant trainer, as coach of the newly created women’s swimming team.
