San Diego Charger cornerback Gill Byrd might have intercepted his last pass. Byrd, 32, who will miss this season after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his left knee, said he is prepared to retire.

“I’m going to rehab as if I’m going to try to come back, but I don’t know yet,” Byrd said from home in a conference call with reporters. “The burning question now that my wife and I have to ask . . . is why come back? What do we have to prove? . . .”

The Atlanta Falcons agreed to a three-year contract with offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy, their first-round draft pick from Washington. . . .
