WESTMINSTER : Migrant Parents Plan Baby-Sitting Co-Op

A committee of about 50 migrant parents will meet at Sigler Park today to organize a baby-sitting cooperative and discuss how to improve their children’s education, a Westminster School District spokeswoman said.

Sponsored by the district’s Migrant Education Program, the group will meet at 3 p.m. at the park, at 7200 Plaza St. The meeting will be the second for the recently formed group, said spokeswoman Audrey Brown.

The Migrant Education Program, which is overseen by a regional office in San Diego, provides home tutoring, summer camps and after-school activities to about 250 students in the Westminster district.

Families are defined as migrant if parents are involved in the agricultural or fishing industry and if they move frequently, Brown said.
