Fans Having Trouble Finding Any Humor in Explosive Incident

So Eric Davis thinks of himself as a “humorous type of guy.”

This overpaid malcontent is struggling to hit .230 and has nothing better to do with his free time than be party to injuring innocent fans with illegal fireworks.

Gee, Eric, you’re a laugh a minute.

Just finished Monday’s story about Eric Davis, Vince Coleman and fireworks. It is heartwarming to see one paranoid loser come to the defense of another. Eric says he’s a humorous guy. I agree--especially when he’s in the batter’s box.

I find it funny when a guy gets his leg caught in a mechanical tarp before a big game. Everyone does, don’t they? Especially when the guy gets hurt and can’t play, then it’s hilarious. But then again, I’m a humorous kind of guy.

If Vince Coleman stuck up a liquor store and Eric Davis was the getaway driver, would the Dodgers say it’s a complicated thing, but the responsibility must ride with the person who had the gun?

The Dodgers better take the responsibility that Davis refuses to. They should make amends to the injured fans and not count on the Mets doing so. Oh, they should also get rid of Davis. The sooner the better.

There is an equally disturbing point about this “prank” of these immature and foolhardy players. Peter O’Malley and the Dodger organization have not come forward with a public apology to the fans who were injured. Instead, Tommy Hawkins issues a statement saying, “It’s a complicated thing.”

Recently, Sports Illustrated pondered where all the heroes had gone in baseball. The demise of the hero-player begins at home . . . with the Dodger players and the Dodger organization.

You want a joke, Eric? Your batting average, now that’s a joke.

Tommy Hawkins, a Dodger vice president, says “It’s a complicated thing.” Had Hawkins graduated from USC, you could understand his making such a statement. But, embarrassingly, this guy is a Notre Dame graduate.

There’s nothing complicated about it, Tommy. What you have here are a couple of players with severe cases of arrested emotional development.

In honor of Vince Coleman, the Dodgers should initiate Fan Lack of Appreciation Night. Every child under age 14 will be given an M-80. When Coleman comes to the plate, they will be lit and thrown at him. All the fans will then get in their cars and drive away laughing.
