A portion of tonight’s Aerosmith concert at the San Diego Sports Arena is being filmed for use in “Wayne’s World II.” And another scene will be shot before the band’s show at the Forum on Wednesday, where Wayne and Garth will find themselves in the middle of a backstage bacchanal. . . .

Rapper Sir Mix-a-Lot has been so busy on assorted projects--like recording a track with Mudhoney on the upcoming “Judgement Night” soundtrack--that he’s had to put his own album on the back burner. Look for it early next year.

Also in the movies is TLC, with the three young singers currently filming featured roles in “House Party 3.” The group has also started working with producer Dallas Austin on a new album, tentatively due in November. . . .

Fresh from the “Last Action Hero” soundtrack, AC/DC is preparing to record a new album, with Rick Rubin expected to produce. . . . Pantera is also scheduled for a new album in October. . . .

Albert Collins guests with Robert Cray on Cray’s “Shame + Sin” album, due Oct. 5. . . . The Violent Femmes have jumped to Elektra, but former label Slash/Warner Bros. is planning a band-supervised collection of live cuts, B-sides and such flotsam as phone messages left for the group. . . .

Warner Bros. is assembling a boxed set of Paul Simon material, with cuts going back to when he and sometime partner Art Garfunkel were just starting out as Tom & Jerry. . . . The Jesus and Mary Chain is still working on an album that will be at least partly “unplugged,” but it won’t be ready in time to make the fall schedule.

The staff at Giant Records is getting a kick out of the fact that its band, Morbid Angel, known for using such iconography as upside-down crosses, will be performing in Denver in the middle of Pope John Paul II’s visit to the Mile High City.
