Sylmar Man Killed When Van Hits Pole
A Sylmar man was killed Saturday when he lost control of his van, which left the road and ran into a power pole near the intersection of Maclay Street and Gladstone Avenue in Sylmar, police said.
Don Eveland, 37, was killed instantly in the 8:45 p.m. accident, police said. Los Angeles police said a strong odor of alcohol was detected on Eveland’s body.
Witnesses said Eveland was driving about 70 m.p.h., going east on Maclay Street right before the crash, police said.
Police said Eveland was not wearing a seat belt and was driving with a suspended license and that the van he was driving had not been registered since 1986.
