Pacific Enterprises Earnings Improve: Crediting reduced corporate overhead and interest charges, as well as some improvement in its utility operations, the parent company of Southern California Gas Co. said income from continuing operations for the 1993 second quarter was $42 million, or 49 cents per common share--a 27% increase over $33 million, or 39 cents per share, for the same period a year ago. In the year-earlier quarter, a $156-million charge resulting from an expected loss on the sale of an oil and gas exploration and production business led to a net loss of $118 million. Last year’s quarter also included income of $5 million from discontinued operations.
