Training Assistance: If you’re one of the more than 14,000 unemployed veterans in Orange County, this could be good news: If you were discharged after Aug. 1, 1990, the government may pay up to $12,000 of your wages while you’re training for a new job.
To qualify under the Service Members Occupational Conversion and Training Act, you must either have a military skill that isn’t readily transferable to civilian life; be at least 30% disabled; or be unemployed for at least eight of the past 15 weeks.
