61st Annual Sea Festival in Long Beach
The 61st annual International Sea Festival sets sail in Long Beach through Aug. 29.
The Catalina ski race, which begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, may be viewed from Bluff Park, Ocean Boulevard and Cherry Avenue, Queensway Bridge and the TraveLodge Hotel on Queensway Drive.
Registration for a sailboat regatta will be at Leeway Sailing Center, 5437 E. Ocean Blvd., at 9 a.m. Sunday. The race begins at noon. Information: (310) 421-9431, Ext. 4102.
Other events include:
* A junior lifeguard competition at Alamitos Lifeguard Station at the Downtown Marina at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
* Open house at the USS George Phillip, a guided missile frigate, at Pier E, Long Beach Naval Station, from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 14.
* Women’s beach volleyball at Granada Beach Courts, 4320 Olympic Plaza, on Aug. 14. Registration is at 8 a.m.; play begins at 9 a.m. ($15 per person).
* An Over the Line softball tournament at Ocean Boulevard and 54th Place, at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 ($40 per team).
* A novice swim meet for children 3 to 14 at the Belmont Plaza Pool, 4000 Olympic Plaza, at 9 a.m. Aug. 14.
* An oar and paddle regatta at the Leeway Sailing Center, 5437 E. Ocean Blvd., on Aug. 14. Registration is at 7 a.m.; sailing at 8:30 a.m.
* The Jet Ski Nationals race at Marine Stadium, 5255 Appian Way, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15 ($6, children younger than 12 free).
* The Prindle Catamaran State Championships at the Claremont Launch Ramp, Claremont Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, starting at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 and 15.
