LOCAL NOTES : Bullfrogs Clinch Division Title With 16-8 Victory

The Anaheim Bullfrogs clinched the Buss Division with a 16-8 victory over San Diego in a Roller Hockey International League game Friday in front of 3,962 in San Diego.

Devin Edgerton had four goals and Kevin Kerr added three as the Bullfrogs (10-0) remained the only undefeated team in the league.

Anaheim led, 3-2, after the first quarter but outscored San Diego, 3-0, in the second quarter and, 5-2, in the third to take an 11-4 lead.

The Bullfrogs outshot the Barracudas, 66-49. Anaheim also scored four goals in four power-play chances.

Tiger Woods of Cypress has only a slight change of advancing in the 91st annual Western Amateur golf tournament being played on he 6,884-yard, par-71, Point O’Woods Golf & Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Sixteen golfers still had nine holes to go when play was stopped Friday because of darkness.

The top 16 players advance to match play and Woods is tied with three others for the final two spots. But 12 of 16 golfers who have yet to finish would have to shoot 40 or higher over the final nine holes for Woods to advance.

Woods shot 75-74 Friday for a four-round total of 294. Chris Tidland of Placentia is at 252 with nine holes left and has a chance to advance.

Ben Garner of Lake Forest shot a final-round 71 to finish tied for 18th in the American Junior Golf Assn. Boys’ Junior Championship on the Las Colinas TPC in Irving, Tex.

Jeff Zippi has resigned as athletic director and baseball coach at Capistrano Valley Christian High, the school announced.

Zippi accepted an assistant baseball coaching position at Concordia University but will continue to teach at Capistrano Valley Christian. Terry Gaunt, an assistant under Zippi since 1987, was named the school’s athletic director.
