The winners of this year’s Industrial Design Excellence Awards had one focus--making life easier. Window shades that don’t need dusting, luggage that turns without tipping and electric grills were time-saving winners. It’s not just a style show for inanimate objects. “There is a growing hunger for environmentally sensitive, purposeful design that solves real problems, instead of just being a trendy look,” said juror Ralph Osterhout. “The most precious commodities of the future are going to be space and time.”
