Company to Donate Truck to Rescue Team
Ventura County officials on Monday are expected to accept a 1986 four-wheel-drive pickup donated to the Sheriff’s Department search-and-rescue team by Southern California Edison Co.
Edison, which is ordering new trucks for its fleet, decided to donate the specially equipped vehicle.
“It was one of their vehicles that they were phasing out of their fleet,” explained Lt. Arve Wells, head of the search-and-rescue unit. “And they had the option of auctioning it off or selling it. When we inquired, they donated it after they looked at the type of incidents it would be used for.”
Racicot said the decision to donate the vehicle was easy. The search-and-rescue team, which includes the dive squad, conducted 140 missions involving 193 victims last year. Of those, 175 survived, Wells said.
