THOUSAND OAKS : City Seeks Logo to Reflect Its Spirit

Attention, all east county artists: Thousand Oaks is looking for a few good logos.

Not just any logo, though. This one must reflect the spirit of Thousand Oaks, celebrate the city’s 30th anniversary, and serve as the permanent symbol for the new Civic Arts Plaza.

Anyone living within what Thousand Oaks officials call the “greater Conejo Valley”--from Calabasas to Camarillo, Moorpark to Malibu--can submit a two-color drawing to the city manager’s office by Sept. 23.

The contest entries will be judged by the ad-hoc committee planning the Civic Arts Plaza’s grand opening, which coincides with the city’s 30th birthday in October, 1994. The City Council will then formally select the winner.

“The logo must reflect the beginning of an era for the Civic Arts Plaza,” said Councilman Frank Schillo. “It must reflect the future as well as what we have now in Thousand Oaks.”

Because the logo will become the official symbol of the 1,800-seat auditorium and 400-seat theater now under construction, it must be adaptable to stationery, souvenirs and posters and must look good in black and white.
