Crash Into Flood Channel Kills Driver, Injures 2 in Car

A car crashed through a chain-link fence and tumbled into a flood control channel Sunday night, killing the driver and injuring his two passengers, police said.

Police said the car was northbound on Eckhoff Street when it came to the end of the road, plowed through the fence and landed in the bottom of Collins Channel.

The driver, who was not identified pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange, authorities said.

Passenger Kathleen D’Amico, 41, of Anaheim was taken to UCI Medical Center and then transferred to Kaiser Permanente Hospital-Orange County in stable condition, hospital officials said.

Her husband, Dominic D’Amico, 43, also of Anaheim, was in stable condition Monday at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana and was to be transferred to Kaiser, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said they do not know the cause of the accident, which occurred at 8:53 p.m..
