World IN BRIEF : CROATIA : Foes to Consider U.N. Cease-Fire

Croatian and Serbian commanders agreed to consider U.N. proposals for a cease-fire in Croatia after five days of fighting across the republic, U.N. officials said. But Croatian army commanders insisted that troops of the U.N. Protection Force take control of three villages captured by Croatian soldiers in an offensive near the southern town of Medak last week. Fighting still raged around the town of Karlovac, 30 miles southwest of the capital of Zagreb, and shelling was reported in Sisak and the Adriatic port of Zadar. At least three people were reported killed and seven wounded in addition to an earlier official toll of 11 dead and 30 wounded in Karlovac since Thursday.
