CHILI CON NAVARRO: The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ revolving door for guitarists has taken another quick turn with the hiring of former Jane’s Addiction member Dave Navarro. He replaces Jessie Tobias, who had been hired only a month ago after an intensive search that included an ad for candidates in the L.A. Weekly.

Tobias, who left the band Mother Tongue (recently signed to Epic) to take the gig, had replaced Arik Marshall, who had only a year ago replaced John Frusciante, who came on board five years ago replacing Hillel Slovak, who died of a drug overdose.

“It just wasn’t working out as good as it needed to,” says Peppers bassist Flea about Tobias. “Jessie’s really a great musician and I wish him well, but we need Dave Navarro right now.”

The band will begin recording a new album in January, working again with producer Rick Rubin, who oversaw the 1991 hit album “Blood Sugar Sex Magik.” Flea also says that the new lineup probably will debut with one or two surprise L.A. club shows before then.
